How the Golden-cheeked warbler RCS works
- Private landowners with qualifying habitat enter into contracts from 10 years to 30 years in 5 year increments.
- Private landowners then work with local specialists to determine the terms and management practices for the maintenance and enhancement of suitable Golden-cheeked warbler habitat.
- Credit points are developed through a formula with weighting factors including available acreage of suitable habitat, proximity to known populations of golden-cheeked warblers, the extent of surrounding golden-cheeked warbler habitat and recovery region.
- Credits are held in a “bank” for use by Fort Hood to offset impacts to Golden-cheeked warbler habitat.
